Within this post I have shown images of my presentation for my mid point review.
Design to me ...
Design covers all aspects of life. It is problem solving and creating; it is something that has an effect on everything. Spatial design influences people’s feelings, moods and much more. It connects to everything in some small way. Connections are what create concepts. They provide links to design something new and unique. They provide influences and this in turn develops into inspiration for better things.

Simulate Stimulate
The brief for this project was to find an unused or derelict space that could be turned into something useful. The space was to be situated in or around Dundee. The area that I chose was just south of Roseangle in Dundee. The design presented is a structure that displays advertisements. The main influence for arriving at the final design was the users of the space, mainly train customers and walkers. The design consisted of large panels that are separated so that the advertisement can only be read clearly when looking directly straight ahead. The main reason behind the panels was the interesting shadows that were created by the sunlight. The structure is made from stainless steel and sits in a shallow pool of water. The surrounding area will be light coloured small stones. Not only does the structure provide somewhere for animated advertisements to be used but also the structure acts as a piece of sculpture. I believe that my design stimulates the space.

Inspirational images towards final project
The images below are what inspired me towards my design and what has helped it develop further.

Melbourne Station Australia. I was inspired by the roof and the way it was constructed. It gave me ideas towards the sheltered parts of my design. |

The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2008, designed by Frank Gehry. This made think about the amount of sheltered space and open space with regard to my ideas. |

This is an image of interlocking wheels. It inspired the shape of the market. It has also given me ideas as to how the market can be constructed and made transportable. |

Images of development models towards final project
Here are some initial images of development models. These helped me to make decisions on my design and help it progress. From my initial sketches I began to play with the idea of the shape of a snake and how it's moves could be interpreted into how a market could be located within a street. I began thinking about sections, hinges, how the market could be built and made portable. This has influenced my decisions and developed my design further.
The inages below show the thought process behind using a hinge or something that folds to create a market stall. The concept is when the hinge is open then the market would be open.
The model images below were inspired from a snake shape and in which I selected points put pins in and then wrapped thin gold thread around them to create shapes. This then developed into the shape for each stall.
Intial sketches towards final project.
This post and the ones that follow show images, sketches of my initial and continuing development for my final project at university. The idea for this project is to design a new shopping experience. A way in which consumers can experience a shopping market but in a new and different way. It can provide an opportunity to shop in a sustainable way. My concept also consists of providing an event within this market so that it has another purpose besides shopping. It can provide a service as well as the shopping aspect. My intention is that my design will be clusters of different pods with a theme in mind. One example I have chosen to use is the theme of fashion. The pods in this cluster would consist of a designer fashion pod, a student fashion designer, a tailor service, an accessory and jewellery pod, a stylist service and a shoe pod. All of these would provide the consumer to achieve one look from one cluster. With regard to the event part of my design. The fashion cluster would have a fashion catwalk which would advertise the items and services that would be sold in the cluster. It also can be used as a means of advertisement for the cluster as well. Here are some initial sketches ideas towards my project.
